ANNA LENARTOWSKA's PORTFOLIO
In her works, Anna Lenartowska (b. 1984, Poland) touches on the concept of loss. Based on her own human condition, which can be characterized by experiences of anxiety, nostalgia, and solitude, she explores human existence, meanwhile providing a mirror to our own consciousness too.
She presents images both in colour and in black and white where the human body is always in the centre. Body language, gestures and choreography play a significant role in her oeuvre. Furthermore, the play with light and placement of odd objects in the imagery seem to resemble the obstacles that we face on our journey of life.
Her works can be considered a poetry of a forced life. However, that poetry is not to be seen as a genre but rather in line with a proclamation of the famous Russian film director, Andrei Tarskovsky: “an awareness of the world, a particular way of relating to reality.” Lenartowska’s most recent project derives from one of her works called ‘Amputee’, further exploring creative directions within its context.
